Sakuraya Fish Market - there is a reason why its called a market anyway - This shop is a semi-restaurant with a mini market with fresh sashimi and japanese goods that you can purchase to whip up a delicious Japanese meal at home! I can tell you for sure that the prices of the goods here is definitely marked up. Money versus convenience, you can choose for yourself.
Now for the food. As there were only the two of us, we didn't order a lot. Here goes....
.Chuka Kurage. $3.
Not much to expect for a $3 appetizer, the size of it was really proportionate to the price though: it was really small. However, the coolness and crunchiness of the jellyfish did satisfy my craving for it and the tinge of spiciness indeed prepared my appetite next few items.
.Chirashi Don. $14.
This was honestly nothing compared to those at Chikuwa Tei, especially the serving. This looks pretty from the picture but if you actually held the sashimi up, you will get my point when you see your dining partner through the fish slice. To give them some credit, the salmon sashimi that my friend offered me was really fresh.
.Una Don. $15.
Once again, this dish is pale in comparison with the one at Chikuwa Tei too. And, like the chirashi don, the slices were a little too thin for me to enjoy the tangibility of my favourite unagi in my mouth. In addition, the texture of the unagi was a tad too soft. I really liked the fragrance of the sauce and the pretty picked lotus root though.
. Shisamo. $4.
Imagine yourself biting into the abdomen of the mothers with hundreds and thousands of eggs bursting into your mouth, crushed between your molars. There goes the lives of the thousands of little fishies and you, yes you, you are the one who took away all their chances of survival. BUT, I still enjoy eating the shishamooo~~~
.Tori Karaage. $6.
Hmmm... Fried chicken, nothing special and a little too hard for me, I personally had quite a bit of difficulty eating this as I had ulcers from all the late nights and no sleep. You could order this if you have spare cash or a sudden craving for a more expensive fried chicken :)
To end off, if you have the budget and you really want a good meal of authentic japanese food with awesome Chirashi Don and Una Don, just go to Chikuwa Tei. It's no doubt significantly more pricier than here, but trust me, it's definitely worth it. It's not that this restaurant isn't good, but, there are places that can do much better than this for the above items that I ordered.
Have an awesome day ahead people~!
