Basically, you can find most of the food below in their night markets (夜市) while for others, you'll have to walk past them coincidentally or look for them in unlikely places hidden in slightly more ulu areas. As a general rule of thumb, if it looks good, just eat it (like what Andrew Zimmern always say). I am sorry that I didn't include the price this time round as I was too busy spending my time enjoying them, anyway the food in Taiwan is seriously very affordable with most costing only NTD20-30, maybe at most NTD50 with SGD$1= approx. NTD23, so most things were like less than SGD$2?

大肠包小肠
We queued really long for this sausage bun-looking food. Basically this is a oriental sausage (小肠) surrounded by this rice that is shaped to wrap the sausage snugly together with other ingredients at your liking. There were about 5 choices to choose from, original, spicy, very spicy and I forgot the other two :)

木瓜牛奶
This shop is seriously quite famous for the papaya milk shake and other shakes. They have been interviewed and featured on some Taiwan show on TVBS (食尚玩家). To find this shop, simply look around for a queue or lookout for the the shop with a huge poster and tv set that keeps replaying the less than 5 minute clip featuring them on 食尚玩家.

Another thing that was fascinating in Taiwan was the plethora of bubble tea shops! It's not like Singapore where you only have a shop or two in your neighbourhood, or maybe say three in more central or populated areas and you know what choices you would have, hmm let me see, Koi, Gong Cha, Koi, Gong Cha oh, Koi and Gong Cha again, maybe eskimo in some few cases and maybe another 阿甘茶(agantea) or 水研社. But in Taiwan, you'll be amazed by the number of bubble tea shops lining up one beside another, providing yummy and new creations at an affordable price, so much so that you can easily buy two cups of bubble tea with the price that you normally pay for a cup of Gong-teh in Singapore.

鸭片夹
This was like some juicy duck slices with their fragrant duck fats, cucumber, picked vegetables and special sauce etc all wrapped in one mantou-alike bread. I liked the sauce :)
鹌鹑蛋
Cute little sunny side ups!

泰国大头虾
You can find a lot of this in Thailand too, but I haven't come across a stall in Thailand that serves this freshwater prawn like this. Usually they are grilled instead :)

深海花枝烧
This was YUMMY. Really good. Be it the taste or the texture. MUST TRY :D
爆浆葱油饼
This fried spring onion "pancake" was a little special, there was an egg plastered onto it while frying and it was well controlled to the extent that the egg yolk is still runny! You gotta be careful when you eat this for the yolk will burst and become messy when you chomp on it :)

Cheap and good takoyaki! Another store that you have to keep a lookout for and try :D
拉菲亚汉堡
日月潭
This is one of the places that you should come if you are on a food tour in Taiwan. Food is really awesome here. And in case you have no idea on what you should try, there is a pamphlet showing the must-tries around the lake if you take the ferry tour there. And since you are already at the lake, might as well spend a little more on the ferry and tour around the lake! There, you will also find the smallest island in Taiwan, in the lake itself :)
金盆阿嬷香菇茶叶蛋
You will have to take the ferry to this part of the lake to be able to try this variation of herbal egg. Being slightly different from the normal herbal egg in Singapore or Malaysia, this egg is infused with the fragrance of both Shitake mushroom and herbs instead of just the traditional herbs that we use.
阿萨姆红茶
Note the words "TVBS特别推荐", follow these words and queue for the food, it won't go wrong :D

黑山猪肉夹饼
山豬肉刈包
煎芋头糕
苹果蕉 皇后蕉 旦蕉 美人蕉
The different types of banana that you can find around that area. Many that we have not seen before.
纸
This is a piece of paper from a paper-making factory, edible and flavoured. Note that you have to eat it while it's hot and crispy. It would be very tough to bite it apart once it cools down. Quite an experince :)
18度C巧克力
This is like the Godiva of Taiwan. Not bad and the shop is super cool, they give out free chocolates occasionally and free coffee and tea whole day :) The queue can be a little crazy as there is always a lot of people wanting to buy the chocolates but it is really systematic there as you will need to get your number (like Singtel and Starhub where you press the button, get a slip and wait for your turn) to enter the room to select your chocolates. Rationale: The room can only allow less than 6 people to enter to maintain the temperature of 18 degrees celsius, hence the name of the chocolatier.

This wild boar oriental sausage is much more fragrant than the normal oriental sausage, grab this when you see it. Another amazing food that I don't have a picture of is called 七里香. For those who haven't heard of this, it's basically chicken butts and, it is phenomenally awesome!!!! It's a MUST TRY in Taiwan (it may be a little too oily for those who don't like fats though) and FYI, there is no stinking poop smell at all ;)

田季发爷烧烤店
A bbq buffet shop with quite a few outlets around Taiwan. This beats Seoul Garden h.a.n.d.s.d.o.w.n.. Seriously. You have a much wider variety from vegetables to chicken to pork to beef to innards to seafood to desserts, and there is also types of meat, as in the part of the animal to choose from. There is a free flow of shisamos as well. And the best part is their service. You have professional waiters armed with their bbq-ing skills, teaching you and providing tips on how to have your dinner bbq-ed to perfection. For those items that require higher skills, fear not for those professionals will get it perfectly done for you.

阿义卤肉饭
This is definitely a MUST TRY. It took us a little while to find this though. Contrary to the normal 卤肉饭 with very light sauce and very little meat, this 卤肉饭 gave us a wow factor the moment it has been served, not only does it have a lot of pork and mushroom, it smells of yumminess as well! And the best part was when you put a spoonful of that into your mouth, the fats and the meat melt in your mouth and the shitake mushroom's fragrance and texture completes the whole experience. YUMS!
